Give Yourself a Little Love

As we enter a week of chocolate covered strawberries, chicken nugget hearts and candy overload, there’s no denying keeping your diet in check can be extra challenging. This Valentine’s Day, give yourself a little love by staying on track without being deprived of your favorites.

Go for Quality

While you might not think a handful of peanut butter M&M’s here and there is harmless, they can add up quick. Tossing back 10 M&M’s (one handful) adds about 200 calories and 23g of added sugar to your day. And let’s not forget about those extra two or three handfuls. Choose healthier alternatives like dark chocolate covered almonds to work in heart-healthy antioxidants with less added sugar, but be sure to keep portions in check!

Get Moving

As our diet starts to slip it can be easy to let the rest of those new year’s resolutions go by the wayside. Whether it’s a quick 10 minute walk, stretch break at work or full on sweat session, find ways to work in a little movement each day.

Having an accountability partner not only makes the gym a less intimidating and more fun place, but ensures you won’t be hitting snooze through your workout. Swap the Valentine’s dinner and movie to get your heart pumping with an active date like a round of mini golf, bowling or a stroll around the block.

Go For Color

More chocolate and candy typically means less room for color on your plate. Vibrant fruits and vegetables give your body essential vitamins and minerals to keep your body running at tip top. Aim for at least 3-4 different colors each day.

Unplug and Unwind

It’s easy to fall into the comparison game and feel overwhelmed when we live life through social media. Give your mind some well deserved appreciation this Valentine’s day and take time to unplug and recharge. Research shows the hour(s) we’re spending on Facebook and other social platforms may be reducing well-being and quality of personal relationships.

While you’re busy taking care of everyone else this Valentine’s day, don’t forget to show yourself some well deserved love.
